Summer Theme Week 3 - Hurricanes

This week I learned about hurricanes. I found out I was born during Hurricane Katrina, a terrible storm that flooded all of New Orleans. Mom said the hospital's power went out while we were there. Here are some of the things we did this week:

  • Watched the satellite and radar in motion clips of Hurricane Katrina

  • Saw some photos of the damage

  • Talked about characteristics of hurricanes, such as the eye, and were the winds are the worst

  • Completed a hurricane strength/category chart

  • Plotted the course of Hurricane Katrina

  • Made a hurricane (vortex) in a bottle (experiment)

  • Created a hurricane book and colored the pages

  • Discussed storm surge and hurricane safety procedures

  • Learned about the American Red Cross and mom donated to help them out

  • Had two Dairy Queen Blizzards (because they are yummy and weather related)

  • Ate a delicious themed breakfast

See my vortex!

Yumm!

Summer Theme Week 1 - Robots

For the summer, Mom is doing fun weekly themes with me. This was our first week and we learned about robots. I watched YouTube videos of robots building cars, working on satellites in outer space, and even a doctor using a robot to operate. One robot looked like the inside of a human with bones and could shake hands.

I watched the Robots movie and really liked Bigweld. We also read the book "Ricky Ricotta's Giant Mighty Robot" which was very interesting. The robot was good and beat the monster and Mr. Stinky.

Then Mom made a Lego robot with me. I designed it. This is 616 (I named him).

Dad and Mom both helped me build a real working robot using a soda can. This is C1000-1 (I named him, too). He really walks.

Here is a little art project robot I made out of scraps.

Tomorrow Mom is making special robot sandwiches for lunch!

Renaissance Faire

We spent a couple hours at a Renaissance Faire today. Here are a few photos. Trenton was able to experience petting a snake, riding an elephant, seeing horses & ponies & camels, watching a puppet show, seeing many knights & jesters, watching a parade for the king and queen, gasping over a sword eater, witnessing some duels, jumping in a bounce house, and most importantly, adding a new sword/dagger to his collection. We missed the horse jousting because he was quickly giving out at that point.

Garbage Apron

Today I painted an apron. I made it a garbage theme. I used green paints and a little of purple, my favorite color. I put little paint dots popped up all over for trees. I made a recycling symbol and write a WM for Waste Management. Mom painted my name with stamps.

Here it is being left to dry before Mom ironed on the trucks.

Now I am wearing it. The trucks are supposed to be garbage trucks. They are the closest things we could find at the craft store.

The Stords

I have been shooting the Stords and the boy is looking for a box to plug it in [the lazer gun] and he couldn’t find one but then he did and it was perfect. One day a man came and he messed with that box. He plugged it in and POW, POW, POW and even you can see the gun. And the gun shot all by itself. It shot the Stords. One of the Stords caught me and got me inside the box. A Stord looks like a bird. It is red, green and black. It is mean and hurts me and chops me up. Then the men built a new me. The same color, tan. And that’s it the end.

New Orleans

Mom and Dad took me on a trip to New Orleans. I loved staying in a hotel. My favorite thing was the dinosaurs. I loved the food there, and the breakfast, and the drinks. I loved to ride on the trolley every day. It took us everywhere. I ate two squishy, cinnamon worms at the Insectarium. The End. That's all.

My Weekend...

This weekend I:

  • Went to the beach with Daddy and pretended to be a sand crab. I dug in the sand, played in the waves, and got to ride on a jet ski!

  • Went to dinner with my grandparents and my great-great grandma.

  • Went to the pool and pretended I was on a pirate ship with a sword. I practiced my winking too.

  • Gave my mom a flower pot that I painted with some seeds inside. We planted the flowers.

  • Made a REAL volcano with dirt, a plastic bottle, vinegar, food coloring, and baking soda. It erupted! I think the dirt looks like pudding. I think I can eat it. :)

The Scrap Birdhouse

Mom is building a miniature house. She gave me the scraps from all the windows and I decided to build a birdhouse out of them. Mom helped me with the glue gun. Here are some photos.

The final product!

My Spring Break

Lexy (that is my sister) and I were out of school for the week. Mom and Dad took off of work so we had a lot of fun together. Here are some of the things we did...

  • Went to see STOMP! They would not let Mom take a photo of the stage so here I am in my seat so excited for it to begin!

  • Went to an airplane museum. There were jets, old planes, hot air balloons, blimps, bombs, model ships, and space ships.

  • Ate at a fun restaurant where money hangs down from the ceiling. Mom let Lexy and me write on a dollar bill and Dad hung it up. I wrote an 'A' for Alexis and a 'T' for Trenton.

  • Went to a local museum where I saw soldiers, vintage toys, and got to play in the discovery center for kids. It was set up like a coloniel village. I pretended to sail a ship, row a canoe made out of a tree, and sleep on a bed made of ropes.

  • Hunted for eggs at an Easter celebration at my church.

  • Played in my new sandbox under my fort. Dad finally filled it up with sand and I am so happy! I can play with my garbage and construction trucks all day now.

The Bug Gun

There are all these bugs, ants, honey bees, lady bugs, beetles, and mosquitoes. They crawl into Lovey and then come out of the bug gun. The bug gun in part of Lovey's body. She shoots the bugs out of her gun onto the ground. Then the exterminator kills the bugs on the ground. He's great at exterminating.

Planets & Soccer

Earlier this week I made planets out of playdoh. Here is a photo.

Then yesterday I had my first soccer game. I had such a fun time and even kicked the ball a few times. Mommy and Daddy were proud of me.

Jenga Soccer

I made up a game today. You play it with the Jenga game. The support frame is the goal. The Jenga blocks are the balls. You try to throw a block into the corner of the frame. You have to knock over the frame to win. If you miss or don't knock it over, then you get the block back to try again. If you do knock over the frame, then the block gets added to the garbage pile. Once you have added several blocks to the garbage pile, you get some Jenga lollipops (extra blocks).

Mom played with me and we had lots of fun!

I went to the landfill!

Mom and Dad took me on a field trip today to the landfill. I rode on a big bus. It took us to see hazardous waste such as paint cans and I saw a machine crush one. I saw piles of sorted recycling like paper, cardboard, plastic, and aluminum. Then we went to the top of the landfill! We were up so high. A truck with a blue cab was dumping all its waste and compactor tractors were rolling right over it. I saw lots of WM garbage trucks too. wmwmwmwmwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwmwmwmwwm (I really love Waste Management)

I had fun at the dump.

Bye,
trenton
